Learning your star measures score

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) rate Medicare Advantage Plans for Part D and Part C with Star Ratings. Star ratings are a five star rating system based on quality measures.

Many of these quality measures are based on safety, efficacy, and adherence. Payers recognize the importance of the pharmacist’s role in the provision of patient care to increase adherence, safety, efficacy, and quality outcomes.

Secondary to the importance of the pharmacist’s role in quality measures, many payers review quality measure scores to select pharmacies for preferred network status. Pharmacies with higher scores may receive lower co-pays for patients and improved reimbursement for the pharmacy.

Pharmacists providing a high touch provision of care relationship with their patients’ creates patient loyalty, trust, and improved patient outcomes.

Pharmacy quality measure scores may be accessed via EQuIPP (Electronic Quality Improvement Platform for Plans & Pharmacies) at
